If you have received a sexually explicit image without having requested it, it is important to act responsibly and protect yourself. Keep in mind that if the image lacks the consent of the person depicted, or if they are a minor, possessing and distributing such an image could have serious consequences. Therefore, follow these recommendations:
Do not respond or share the image. Ignoring it helps to avoid unnecessary interactions. Sharing it could result in legal and ethical consequences (learn more about this here).
If you are a minor, inform a trusted adult, such as a parent, guardian, or teacher.
If the image was sent by someone you know, consider blocking that person on the platform where you received it.
Look for tools to report inappropriate content or abuse on the platform where you received the image.
In many countries, sending explicit images without consent is illegal, especially if you are a minor. If you know the person who sent these images, consider reporting the incident to local authorities.
Adjust your security settings to reduce the likelihood of unwanted access to your information or profiles by strangers in the future.
If you are being blackmailed with sexually explicit images of yourself, the most recommended options are:
Do not pay any money or favor to the blackmailer.
Inform a trusted adult (parent, guardian, teacher, etc.) about the situation.
Report the situation to local authorities and explain the circumstances to them.
